Great picture. I had not seen it before.

Perhaps this is why Confederate John Singleton Mosby was so opposed to the collegiate version of the sport, at least in the early 1900s, and why Teddy Roosevelt used his influence to have some rules changed to make it less violent

Interesting.

Upon reflection, I wonder if this isn't more (to use the American terms) a depiction of soccer rather than football? It would seem, possibly, to be the case. Then again, I really don't know.
