An Interview with James Broomall

Our conversation with James Broomall, an assistant professor of history at the University of North Florida. In this interview, we discuss Broomall’s latest work, a journal article entitled “We are a Band of Brothers: Manhood and Community in Confederate Camps and Beyond,” published in the September issue of ‘Civil War History.’ Broomall discusses the power of Confederate camps when it came to constructions of Confederate masculinity. In doing so, Broomall offers a version of masculinity that challenges historical scholarship on the subject.
